A defensive domestic injectables maker led while the higher-multiple bioprocessing-and-tools names de-rated in a broad risk-off.

On a broadly lower session, the pharma-supply basket's leader was a defensive domestic manufacturer: Amphastar Pharmaceuticals (AMPH) rose 1.9% to $22.96. Amphastar makes injectables, inhalation and intranasal products on US soil — a name levered to the domestic sterile-manufacturing chokepoint rather than to bioprocessing growth beta — and that defensiveness stood out on a risk-off day driven by an oil-price spike and a bond selloff. It was a rare green in a basket where the higher-multiple tools-and-bioprocessing names sold off.

Repligen (RGEN) fell 6.1% to $170.02, the basket's worst, with no fresh company news — a growth-multiple bioprocessing name giving back after trading at the top of its 52-week range. Repligen sits on the bioprocessing-consumables chokepoint (filtration, chromatography, the single-use kit that gates biologics output), so it trades as high beta on a sector that de-rates fast when yields rise and risk comes off. The life-science-tools cohort fell with it: Maravai (MRVI) −4.5% to $7.30, Stevanato (STVN) −3.4%, Danaher (DHR) −3.1% to $206.93, Thermo Fisher (TMO) −2.7% to $600.50, and Agilent (A) −2.4%.

The fill-finish and containment names — the sterile glass-and-stopper chokepoint — were mixed to lower: West Pharmaceutical (WST) −0.7% to $338.65, Corning (GLW) −2.1%, and SCHOTT Pharma's ADR (SHTPY) flat. The GLP-1 anchors diverged from the tape, insulated from the risk-off that hit the tools names: Eli Lilly (LLY) +0.3% to roughly $1,160 and Novo Nordisk's ADR (NVO) −0.5% to $45.12 both held near flat. Charles River (CRL) fell 2.0% to $282.34 on the preclinical-services side.

The autumn calendar is trade-show and earnings-led. CPhI Worldwide — the industry's largest supply-chain gathering — runs October 6–8 in Milan, where CDMO and excipient capacity gets repriced. West Pharmaceutical reports Q3 on October 22 and Charles River around November 5. The policy chokepoint to watch is BIOSECURE: OMB's statutory deadline to publish its initial list of "biotechnology companies of concern" falls December 18, the date that would begin to redraw the China-exposed CDMO map for WuXi and its peers.
